The Bay Area Hyphy Movement left the national spotlight long ago but that doesn't mean we can't reminisce. It was a time characterized by ghost ridin' the whip, shakin' dreads, goin' dumb, sideshows, and a Hip-Hop sound unique to the Bay Area. What a time it was! Artists like Keak Da Sneak, Mistah Fab, The Jacka, E-40, Mac Dre, Traxamillion and many others ushered in a movement unlike any other.
It's sad to say that we lost a few of the movement's pioneers to gun violence (Mac Dre and The Jacka) but the remnants of its influence can be heard in plenty of songs today. In fact, Bay Area radio host, Big Von, collaborates with some of these trendsetting artists in the latest song, Windows. Check out the official video for the track below and go dumb!!
I spent a lot of my late teenage and early adult years listening to The Jacka. I randomly got a chance to meet him at the FAZE Flagship Store a few years back. RIP to the legend.
