This past Monday I was asked by my friend, Michael Warren, to help out with a special project he had been working on for quite some time. Michael is a Boston-based photographer and has been working on this personal project about people and the things that have meaning to them. The project is called Somebodies and the tag line is 'Everyone has stuff they care or obsess about'. He was also the photographer in charge of the Quickbooks/Intuit photoshoot that we did at the shop a few months ago. It was a great experience working with Michael on that shoot so we've stayed in touch since then.
Michael has been working with diverse group of folks on this project for the last 5 years. However, the process is the same every time. It consists of a one-on-one interview, a portrait of the person, and a portrait of their object. In addition to portraits, he also videotapes everyone talking about their relationship to the object and why it has meaning to them. I can't really detail the object(s) that I spoke about because the editing is not yet complete for my feature. What I can say is the object(s) and the story I shared with Michael is personal and hasn't been shared with many. Even though it's personal my plans are to share it once it's complete.
Michael's ultimate goal for the project is to shoot 150 to 200 people. He then wants to edit them down to the best 75 with the intent of getting them featured in a gallery show and a book deal (hope I make the cut haha). A portion of the project was recently shown at TEDx Boston and was well received. Check out some behind the scenes flicks of my feature below as well as a trailer for the Somebodies project.
