A Busy Yet Rewarding Week for FAZE

April 17, 2016

This past week we had the opportunity to be involved in two great events in our city of San Francisco. Whenever we have the chance to speak to the youth and/or share our business experiences with our peers, we love to jump on those opportunities.

SMART Program's Annual Career Conference

Founded in 1997, SMART provides financially-disadvantaged students with access to educational opportunities. Only 10% of low-income students earn a college degree and SMART closes the achievement gap by providing students grades 5-12 with access to academically rigorous schools and mentorship support. The fact that 94% of SMART students attend college is a testament to the program's success.

This is the second year getting involved in SMART's Career Conference. It was great to see familiar faces among the conference volunteers as well as students. During the conference, we had the opportunity to hear about the career goals of SMART students, provide feedback on their 'elevator pitches' and also share our own college/career experiences. I hope that our story and feedback was able to provide a spark of inspiration for the aspiring college students in this program.

Pacific Community Ventures Annual Luncheon

Pacific Community Ventures was launched in 1999 by two former Silicon Valley executives who saw the resources being made available to venture-backed tech startups and knew that independent businesses could benefit from the same resources. PCV's objective is to create jobs and economic opportunity for working people in local communities. Since its inception, the organization has helped over 4,000 small businesses grow and create tens of thousands of jobs in neighborhoods that need them most.

FAZE have been a part of Pacific Community Ventures small business advising program for nearly a year. This past week we had the opportunity to speak at their annual luncheon, which took place at the beautiful Hotel Nikko here in San Francisco. The focus of the event's discussion panel was how we identify, create, and maintain quality jobs in our communities. The discussion was very informative and we're definitely grateful to have been given an opportunity to be one of the panel participants.
